5 SOLUTIONS FOR SLIPPERY DECKING ?
When wet, slippery decking can present a serious hazard. Here are five ways to prevent the risk of slips and falls on your decking.
1. CLEAN AWAY LEAVES AND ALGAE
Wet leaves or algae on decking can cause the surface to become slippery. Algae will quickly flourish on untreated timber in damp weather. Use a stiff brush to dislodge algae growth before you wash down the decking. Or use a pressure washer to clean the boards.
2.  TREAT WITH NON-SLIP DECKING OIL
Once the decking is clean and dry, it can be treated with a non-slip substance. Anti-slip decking oil contains compressed particles that will form a rough surface once painted onto decking.
3.  USE AN ANTI-SLIP PAINT
An alternative to non-slip decking oil is to paint the boards with anti-slip paint. This type of paint generally contains anti-slip microbeads, and some include an algicide that prevents mould and algae from forming.
4.  FIT ANTI-SLIP STRIPS
Self-adhesive strips that have a coarse grit surface can be attached to decking. These are especially effective if you have decked steps that are proving to be hazardous.
5.  ATTACH CHICKEN WIRE TO THE BOARDS
Another option is to stretch chicken wire over the decking and make sure it’s firmly fixed in place.
