? 5 TOP TIPS FOR PLANTING HANGING BASKETS ?

Not only is it time to get the strawberry plants in the garden but it’s also time to start thinking about your hanging baskets.

Are there two things that make you think about summer more than strawberries and hanging baskets? Exciting times my friends, exciting times!

Here are our five top tips for planting up your hanging baskets:

1. Consider the layout of your baskets and use an odd number of plants to give your display a more natural feel. Aim for one larger plant for the centre and a selection of smaller and trailing plants for around the edges.

2. Think about using harmonious colours such as lilac, purple and blue and make the colours pop by including a white flowering plant to break up the colour.

3. Use low maintenance plants such as petunia, geranium and fuchsia or what about a Petchoa which is new in this year? Consider using moisture control gel in the compost to reduce the need for watering and feed them – we use Miracle Grow slow release pellets https://www.homeleigh.co.uk/…/miracle-gro-slow-release-all…/

4. Deadhead your flowers to keep them repeat-flowering throughout the season.

5. Keep an eye on the weather because your baskets will need protecting from frost. If we do get frost, just pop some bubble wrap or fleece over them at night to keep them warm.

Of course, if that all seems like far too much effort then don’t worry – we’ve got you sorted! Just head on in to store and pick up some of our beautiful ready-planted hanging baskets – made up by our wonderful plant team.
